Ingredients Philosophy
Our Ingredient Philosophy
What goes into a supplement matters just as much as what is left out. At Nutri-Leaf, we take a transparent, science-based approach to ingredient selection. We believe you deserve to know exactly what you are putting into your body, why each ingredient is included, and what forms we use — and why.
Our Approach to Ingredients
Every Nutri-Leaf formula begins with a simple question: what is the best form of this nutrient for absorption, stability, and efficacy? We prioritise active, bioavailable forms that the body can actually use. For example, we use methylated forms of B vitamins where appropriate, as these are the forms that are ready for the body to utilise without needing additional conversion steps. This is science-based formulation, not trend-driven marketing.
Why Nutrient Form Matters
Not all forms of a nutrient are created equal. The chemical form of a vitamin or mineral can significantly affect how well it is absorbed and utilised by the body:
- Vitamin C: We use pure ascorbic acid, the form most extensively studied for bioavailability.
- B vitamins: We include active forms such as methylfolate (instead of folic acid) and methylcobalamin (instead of cyanocobalamin) where the formula calls for it.
- Minerals: We select mineral forms with good bioavailability, such as zinc gluconate and selenium-L-methionine.
- Plant extracts: We standardise our herbal extracts to specific marker compounds to ensure consistent potency from batch to batch.
These decisions are documented on each product page so you can see exactly what form of each nutrient you are receiving.
Sourcing Principles
We select our ingredients based on three criteria: quality, traceability, and ethical sourcing. Our suppliers are carefully vetted and audited. Each raw material batch is tested upon arrival at our facility to verify identity, purity, and potency before it is released for production. We maintain full traceability from raw material supplier to finished product.
The Capsule Difference: HPMC Plant-Based vs. Gelatine
Nearly all Nutri-Leaf products are encapsulated in HPMC (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) capsules. HPMC is derived from cellulose, a plant-based fibre. We chose HPMC over traditional gelatine capsules for several reasons:
- Plant-based: Suitable for vegetarians and vegans. No animal slaughter required.
- Stable: HPMC capsules have low moisture content, making them ideal for moisture-sensitive ingredients and providing a longer shelf life.
- Reliable disintegration: Unlike gelatine, HPMC does not suffer from cross-linking issues that can affect dissolution, ensuring consistent release of contents.
- Free from common allergens: Our capsules are free from gluten, lactose, soy, and other common allergens.
What We Avoid
We take a strict approach to what we do not include in our products:
- Magnesium stearate: A common flow agent in supplement manufacturing. We avoid it where possible; when needed, we use the smallest functional amount from plant-derived sources.
- Titanium dioxide: We do not use titanium dioxide as a whitening agent in our capsules or coatings.
- Artificial colours: Our products contain no artificial colouring agents.
- Artificial flavours: We do not add artificial flavours to our capsules.
- Unnecessary fillers: Our formulas are built around active ingredients, not bulking agents. What you get is active ingredients, not excipients designed to fill space.
German Manufacturing Quality
All our products are manufactured in our FSSC 22000 certified facility in Münchberg, Germany. This certification ensures that every ingredient is handled, processed, and tested to the highest international food safety standards. For us, ingredient quality is not just about what is on the label — it is about the entire system that brings that ingredient from source to capsule.
