Silica – Bamboo Extract

Silica — silicon dioxide — is one of the most common minerals on Earth, and one of the least claimable in EU supplement law. This collection is deliberately honest about that: it presents the botanical ingredients in our range that naturally contain silicon dioxide, and it states plainly what silica can and cannot claim on a label.

What silica is

Silicon dioxide is a natural component of plant tissues. Plants take up silicon from the soil and deposit it in their cell walls — bamboo stems and horsetail are classic examples. As a nutrient, silica has no Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) under current EU regulations, and no nutrient-function claim is authorised for it.

What a silica supplement label may say

Nothing benefit-related. A product may list silica or silica-containing botanicals as ingredients — that is all. Any "silica for hair", "silica for skin" or similar wording is not authorised, and you will not find it on a Nutri-Leaf label. Where our formulas contain botanicals that naturally provide silicon dioxide, we list them as ingredient facts and attach no benefit claims to them.

The botanicals in our range

Skin Hair & Nails contains four plant extracts, two of them classic silica plants: bamboo shoots extract (a 10:1 extract standardised to 75% silicon dioxide) and horsetail herb powder, alongside millet seed extract and nettle leaf extract. The hair, skin and nail benefits in that formula come from the authorised nutrients — biotin, zinc, copper and vitamin C — not from the botanicals.
