Ingredient Bamboo Extract

Silicon dioxide is a naturally occurring compound found in soil, plants and water. It does not have an established EU Nutrient Reference Value. In Nutri-Leaf content, bamboo extract is described as an ingredient only; no health benefit or comparative absorption claim is made for its silica content.

Bamboo is one of the most silica-rich plants on earth. The bamboo plant’s famous strength, flexibility, and rapid growth — some species can grow over 30 cm per day — are directly attributable to its high silica content. Silica is deposited in the cell walls of bamboo, contributing to its structural rigidity. Our 10:1 bamboo extract is standardised to 75% natural silica, making it a highly concentrated source. One 100 mg serving provides 77 mg of total silica from all plant sources in our Skin Hair & Nails formula.

Bamboo is one of the most concentrated plant sources of silica, but it is not the only one. Our Skin Hair & Nails formula includes four plant-based silica sources: bamboo extract (75% silica), millet extract (2% silica), nettle extract (2% silica), and horsetail powder. Each brings a slightly different natural profile of minerals and plant compounds. This multi-source approach provides a total of 77 mg of plant-derived silica per serving, from complementary botanical sources with different nutrient cofactors.

Bamboo extract is well tolerated and safe for long-term use at recommended doses. Silica from plant sources is not associated with the same concerns as crystalline silica dust (which is an inhalation hazard in industrial settings).
