Pyridoxal-5’-phosphate (P-5-P) is the biologically active form of vitamin B6. Unlike standard pyridoxine HCl, it requires no liver conversion. Found in our Vitamin B Complex.
What is Pyridoxal-5'-Phosphate?
Pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (PLP) is the biologically active coenzyme form of vitamin B6. While many supplements use pyridoxine hydrochloride (a synthetic form that the body must convert to PLP), Nutri-Leaf uses the active form directly, bypassing the need for hepatic conversion. PLP acts as a cofactor for over 140 enzymes involved in amino acid metabolism, neurotransmitter synthesis, homocysteine metabolism, glycogen breakdown, and haemoglobin synthesis.
Vitamin B6 has one of the broadest ranges of function among all vitamins, reflected in its extensive list of EFSA-approved health claims. It is involved in the synthesis of neurotransmitters such as serotonin (mood), dopamine (motivation), and GABA (relaxation), making it relevant for psychological function. B6 also plays a role in the regulation of hormonal activity through its involvement in steroid hormone receptor modulation.
